The twin brother of fellow prospect Juan Carlos Velasquez, Carlos Ivan Velasquez has been tearing through the pro ranks since his debut in February of 2007.
A 2004 Puerto Rican Olympian who owns an amateur win over highly regarded Cuban champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, Velasquez made his pro debut on February 22, 2007 with an 86 second knockout of Stephan Arnold.
In subsequent months, Velasquez was back at it, stopping Freudis Rojas in two rounds, Michael Holloway in one, David Maund in three, and he finished off 2007 with a second round TKO of Steve Mincks.
In 2008, the Velasquez express didn’t slow down a bit, as he knocked out Ever Perez in less than two minutes, decisioned 48 fight veteran Manuel Sarabia over six rounds, halted rugged David Vasquez in two rounds, and TKO’d Jose Navarrete in five frames to up his perfect record to 9-0 with 8 KOs.
On May 8, 2009, Velasquez made his first start of 2009 in impressive fashion, halting always dangerous Andres Ledesma in one round, and he followed that win up with a shutout victory over fellow prospect Juan Nazario on July 24th.
