One of the most decorated amateurs to hit the boxing scene in recent years, National Golden Gloves and two-time U.S. Amateur Champion Ronny Rios is well on his way to duplicating his amateur success as a professional.
Just 20 years old, the Santa Ana, California has already scored knockouts in half of his pro victories, and he is drawing more and more comparisons to a young Oscar de la Hoya with each passing win for his style and speed in the ring.
In July of 2009, Rios joined the roster of De La Hoya’s promotional firm, Golden Boy Promotions.
“I'm very flattered to be here and excited to perform for Golden Boy Promotions as they are the biggest promoter in the sport today,” said Rios. “I feel that there is a lot expected of me right now and I'm ready to meet those expectations.”
Rios returned to action at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on January 29,2010, and was nearly flawless as he scored a six round unanimous decision over Willshaun Boxley.
In his most recent journey to the ring on March 25th, Rios scored an impressive KO victory over Andres Ladesma in the fifth round of the fight at Club Nokia in Los Angeles.
