GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS BRINGS CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING TO THE GRAND CANYON STATE ON SEPTEMBER 3

Montiel and Gonzalez to be featured on "Solo Boxeo" telecast from the Desert Diamond Casino in Tuscon

In just two and a half years of operation, Golden Boy Promotions has made an effort to bring world class boxing to fight fans around the country. And as ticket buyers in California , Texas , Oregon , Nevada , New York and Florida will attest, this mission has been a successful one. On Friday, September 3, live from the Diamond Center in the beautiful Desert Diamond Casino, boxing fans in Arizona will get to see boxing at its best when Golden Boy Promotions presents an evening of fight action featuring some of the premier boxers in the world.

"It's always been my dream to be not only a local promoter, but to bring my company's shows around the country and around the world," said Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya. "Arizona is the seventh state we've promoted in so far, and I know that's a lucky number because we've got the right fights, the right venue, and the right fans to make this show on September 3 one to remember."

"We are excited to be working with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions as we continue our great boxing shows at Desert Diamond Casino," said Joe Calabrese, CEO of Desert Diamond Casino. "We hope this will be the first of a series of boxing events with Golden Boy Promotions, and I know the great boxing fans of Arizona are looking forward to seeing these world class fighters perform on September 3."

Headlining this card, which will be televised live on Telefutura's "Solo Boxeo" beginning at 9pm ET / 6pm PT, will be two division world champion Fernando "Cochulito" Montiel, who will face Reynaldo Hurtado in a ten round bantamweight bout.

In the co-feature, hard-hitting bantamweight Jhonny Gonzalez, one of the hottest fighters in the world right now, will square off against Hugo Vargas in a ten rounder.

Pound for pound, Fernando Montiel guarantees excitement every time he steps between the ropes. 28-1-1 with 22 KOs , the 25-year-old dynamo has already won world titles in the super flyweight and flyweight divisions, and is in pursuit of his third title, at 118 pounds. Needless to say, to achieve this dream, the native of Los Mochis , Mexico (who stopped Samuel Lopez in three rounds in his last bout) is taking no prisoners in the ring.

In the co-main event, Mexico 's Jhonny Gonzalez (24-4, 22 KOs ) has a well-earned reputation as one of boxing's most compelling young warriors. An exciting fighter with devastating power in his fists, boxing insiders believe that the best is yet to come for the 23-year-old bantamweight bomber, who is riding a ten fight winning streak dating back to 2002, with each of those victories coming by knockout.

Rugged Hugo Vargas (10-6-1, 6 KOs) has some pop in his fists as well, and with national pride on the line, the Mexico City bantamweight will have upset on his mind when he steps into the ring against Gonzalez.

In a featured undercard bout, "Sugar" Raymundo Beltran (14-2, 7 KOs) of Phoenix will square off against an opponent to be determined in a junior lightweight bout. The hard-hitting Beltran, a 23-year-old native of Los Mochis , Mexico , has received rave notices from boxing fans for his exciting style and punching power. He is coming off an eight round decision win over tough veteran Roque Cassiani in June, and is on the verge of entering the world rankings - but he'll need a win on September 3 to do it.
