GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS INKS MARCO ANTONIO RUBIO

MEXICAN KO ARTIST TO MAKE US DEBUT ON AUGUST 5 EDITION OF "BOXEO DE ORO"

LOS ANGELES, July 13 - He is boxing's best-kept secret, a true Mexican warrior cut from the cloth of the greats, and a young man with dynamite in both hands. But Marco Antonio Rubio will be a secret no longer, as Golden Boy Promotions, in a continuing effort to bring boxing's best to fight fans around the globe, is pleased to announce the signing of the junior middleweight contender to a promotional contract.

"This is a great opportunity and a great alignment for me to be able to triumph and become world champion as soon as possible," said Rubio, 23.

"I have been watching the progress of Marco Antonio Rubio's career for a long time, and there is no question that he is on track to becoming boxing's next superstar," said Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya. "He is one of the most exciting fighters in the game today, and his record and knockout power speak for themselves."

"In searching high and low for a promoter, we felt confident that Golden Boy Promotions would be able to take Marco to the world championship that he so truly deserves in a quick fashion, and be able to work diligently on behalf of Marco and his team to build his career," said Julio Gudino, principal of the G3 Group.

Adds Hector Sanchez, Rubio's co-manager, "I feel that Oscar De La Hoya's company is one of the strongest and most respected companies currently in the United States . In speaking with Oscar De La Hoya, I found that he always has the boxer's best interests in mind."

A native of Torreon , Mexico , Rubio (25-1-1, 23 KOs ) holds the WBC International and Mexican junior middleweight titles. Among his victories is a win over previously unbeaten Jose Varela. In his last bout, on May 22, Rubio stopped well-regarded Fitz Vanderpool in a single round - in fact, Rubio's last five victories (and eight of his last nine) have ended in less than one round.

On August 5, Rubio will make his Golden Boy Promotions and United States debuts on national television when he headlines HBO Latino's "Oscar De La Hoya Presents Boxeo De Oro", live from the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo , Texas . An opponent will be announced shortly.

"I'm going to give 100% like I always have," said Rubio of his United States debut. "Just like all the fans that have known me and followed me have been happy with my performances and my boxing, I hope the same will be true here in the United States . They can look forward to a boxer with a lot of heart who is going to give his best at all times. I'm going to show the fans that I am capable and ready."

Rubio is currently ranked fifth in the world by the WBC, and fifteenth by the WBO.
