| Oscar De La Hoya Gives $1,000,000
During a press conference held at White Memorial Medical Center, Oscar De La Hoya announced that he would make a significant gift towards the construction project for the New White Memorial Medical Center totaling $1,000,000. Oscar De La Hoya’s gift is the largest individual gift pledged to date towards the capital campaign. To honor De La Hoya’s generosity, WMMC is naming two areas of the hospital after him: the Oscar De La Hoya Labor & Delivery Center at White Memorial and the Oscar De La Hoya Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at White Memorial. During his visit to White Memorial, De La Hoya and his wife, Millie Cortejer, signed autographs and posed for pictures for enthusiastic employees, physicians, patients and many fans from the community. “Oscar’s support is very important to us as we build this new hospital to better serve our community,” said Beth Zachary, President & CEO.
Oscar has a long history as a philanthropist who gives back to community. In addition to helping promote the hospital in multiple ways, his generous support led to the naming of the Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Cancer Center, which opened in 2000 in memory of Oscar’s mother, who died of breast cancer. The Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Cancer Center represents one more chapter in Oscar De La Hoya’s ongoing commitment to provide the best possible for the residents of the East Los Angeles community.
