The ‘Wright’ Stuff: Golden Boy goes Three for Three in Tampa

Golden Boy Promotions traveled to Tampa, Florida Saturday night and kept the team’s winning tradition intact, going three for three in a trio of intriguing bouts that thrilled fans at the St. Pete Times Forum.

In the HBO-televised main event, pound for pound great Winky Wright improved to 51-3-1 (25 KOs) with a dominant 12 round unanimous decision over courageous former champion Ike Quartey.  In the process, Wright not only solidified his position in the middleweight division, but he also sent Quartey to the canvas twice, a feat only accomplished previously by Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya.

Another Florida native, former world super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy, had a triumphant homecoming as he gutted out a hard fought ten round decision win over Vitali Tsypko.  With the victory, Lacy, a 2000 US Olympian, lifts his stellar record to 22-1 with 17 KOs.

Opening the show for the GBP team was top super bantamweight contender Rey Bautista (21-0, 16 KOs), who showed why he’s called ‘Boom Boom’, as he blasted out 62 fight veteran and former world title challenger Giovanni Andrade in just four rounds.

Congratulations to all these valiant warriors for their spectacular performances.
