GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS SALUTES ‘THE EXECUTIONER’

ATLANTIC CITY, June 12 - It was a master's class, a clinic put on by one of boxing’s all-time greats. And if last Saturday’s dominating win over Antonio Tarver marks the last time Bernard Hopkins will step into the ring as an active participant, all we at Golden Boy Promotions can say is that we will truly miss watching this legend perform his magic for the world.

Using all the tools that made him a lock for boxing immortality, ‘The Executioner’ - in his first fight at light heavyweight since his 1988 debut - dazzled the crowd at Boardwalk Hall, beating the bigger Tarver to the punch throughout the bout, and even dropping his foe to the canvas in the fifth round. The unanimous decision win was academic, and the fans showed their appreciation for the longtime middleweight champion with a rousing ovation. Even more important for Hopkins is that he was able to achieve something even his idol, Sugar Ray Robinson, couldn’t in winning the world light heavyweight title.

It was a magical night.

Now all that’s left to do is let the traditional five year waiting period elapse and watch Hopkins walk into the Hall of Fame as one of the greatest fighters ever to lace up the gloves. And we’ll let the numbers speak for themselves…

47 wins
32 knockouts
20 successful middleweight title defenses
2 divisions conquered
1 amazing career

Congratulations Bernard, we’re proud of you and honored to be working with you.
