Hailing from San Antonio, Texas, Hector "El Finito" Tanajara has been fighting as an amateur since 2007. During that time he has been recognized for his excellence in the ring with eight national championships. In 2012, the rising amateur star qualified to attend the Veles Cup in Kurgan, Russia and took the gold medal in his weight class. The victory in Russia qualified Tanajara to the 2016 USA Pre-Olympic trail competition. Tanajara won the tournament in his weight class and was one of seven selected to go to the final stage for the 2016 Olympic trails. In this crucial time of his career, Tanajara decided to focus on a professional career and bypass the trials. The gamble paid off for the junior lightweight, when the eight-time national champion made his much-anticipated professional debut on August 6 on the popular LA FIGHT CLUB series as a newly signed Golden Boy Promotions fighter and won the fight via knockout.
