Fighter Biography

The one who had been following the career of Danielito Zorrilla since his time as an amateur could glimpse that it would be successful. And after joining as a professional in 2016 with Miguel Cotto Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions has not disappointed, accumulating a perfect record of 13-0 with 10 KO’s so far and emerging as the best prospect of Puerto Rico.

‘El Zorro’ Zorrilla won his 13th bout on his promising professional career and became the WBO’s NABO Jr. Welterweight champion when he defeated Jesus Antonio Perez (24-3, 18KOs) in past October 5 of 2019. “Zorrilla had an amazing performance against Perez, he is a true high rated prospect coming out from Puerto Rico that the world should be watching”, WBO’s President; Francisco ‘Paco’ Valcarcel said.

2020 has been a silent year for boxing and prospect Danielito ‘El Zorro’ Zorrilla, since the COVID-19 pandemic. However Zorrilla will be back in the ring on December 5, 2020 on the first boxing show in Puerto Rico during the pandemic. He will challenge the Colombian heavy hitter Rodolfo “El Tsunami” Puente (19-4-2 with 14 KO’s).

“I have many plans for 2021. I am ready for the big names and challenges, I trust Miguel Cotto Promotion and Golden Boy to take me to my dream, I want to become a world champion and make up for lost time in 2020. But it all starts on December 5 when I face Puente, who is a fighter with a good record and a good number of knockouts.” said Zorrilla, who has a perfect 13-0 record with 10 KOs.

Amateur Highlights

His professional debut was in November 2016 when he knocked out Jesús González after finishing a remarkable amateur race and in which he accumulated 146 matches.

Among his local achievements is having won in four years the prestigious international tournament ‘Cheo’ Aponte, Caguas. Internationally, he fought the World Cups of Kazakhstan (2013), Qatar (2015) and Azerbaijan (2016), as well as the 2016 Olympic Qualifiers in Argentina, when he tried to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio.

But his greatest triumph was in the 2014 Central American Games held in Veracruz, Mexico, where he won the silver medal.

“In the fight for gold I lost by split decision against the number one in the world, Yasnier Toledo, of Cuba,” Zorrilla recalled.

All that amateur experience, however, was intended to prepare him for professionalism and once his stay in amateurism, Zorrilla began conversations with several companies, led by his coach and handler David Oyola.

“I received good offers from companies abroad,” he said, “but I always wanted to stay first in Puerto Rico, educating myself boxistically here, and then project myself to the world.”

Married and with a three-year-old daughter, the 27-year-old fighter belongs to a large family of eight brothers, of which three of the four boys are boxers: Adalberto, the eldest, is a professional super bantamweight and Moses is an amateur who fights at 132 pounds.

But Danielito was not only educated only in boxing, but also has completed several university courses.

“I have an associate degree in banking and I also took university courses in computer systems,” explained the fighter who trains indistinctly in the gyms of Dorado and Toa Baja.

He also took barber courses: “I have a small barber shop in my house, which is what I support myself with,” he added.

But that could take a back seat if Zorrilla continues to win the way he is doing and develops his potential to the fullest. Talent has to join the list of world champions of Puerto Rico in the near future.

“Danielito Zorrilla is very talented and gifted boxer, he is the best prospect coming out of Puerto Rico, we look forward to a bright career and future star,” Miguel Cotto .
