Fighter Biography

Hailing from San Antonio, Texas, Hector “El Finito” Tanajara fought as an amateur since 2007. During that time, he was recognized for his excellence in the ring with eight national championships.

In 2012, the rising amateur star qualified to attend the Veles Cup in Kurgan, Russia and took the gold medal in his weight class. The victory in Russia qualified Tanajara to the 2016 USA Pre-Olympic trail competition. Tanajara won the tournament in his weight class and was one of the seven selected to go to the final stage for the 2016 Olympic trials.

In 2015, Tanajara decided to focus on a professional career and bypassed the trials. The gamble paid off for the junior lightweight, when the eight-time national champion made his much-anticipated professional debut on August 6 of that year on the popular LA FIGHT CLUB series as a newly signed Golden Boy fighter. He won the fight via knockout against Thomas Deleon and followed up his dominant debut with two more LA FIGHT CLUB victories, defeating Jose Antonio Martinez via unanimous decision and Ricardo Alvarado via first round knockout.
“El Finito” crowned his opening year with his first showdown in the fight capital of the world, Las Vegas, Nevada. On November 21, 2015, Tanajara clashed with Jose Fabian Naranjo at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino as part of the Miguel Cotto-Canelo Alvarez undercard. Tanajara kicked off the night in dramatic fashion, knocking out Naranjo in the first round to finish the year undefeated.

The 22-year-old has not slowed down ever since he debuted as a professional. In 2016 he earned a unanimous decision victory over Clay Burns on February 5 before defeating Francisco Medel via first-round technical knockout and Ray Garcia via unanimous decision.

Tanajara continued his undefeated streak in 2017 with unanimous decision victories over Daniel Perales and Daniel Bastien. He also defeated Eduardo Rafael Reyes via majority decision. He ended the year with a fight against Jesus Serrano on November 2 at the Casino Del Sol in Tucson where he won by unanimous decision.
In 2018, Tanajara fought two of the most challenging opponents of his career, going against Roger Gutierrez and Robert Manzanarez. Both fights were won by Tanajara by unanimous decision.

Most recently Tanajara fought against Ivan Delgado in Tijuana, Mexico on February 23, 2019. He won the fight via technical decision. He will face his next opponent, Ezequiel Aviles, in Grand Prairie on August 10 in the Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs Antonio Orozco undercard.

Tanajara is currently undefeated and has won five of his fights by knockout.
